Mood and Mode: The Art of Jim Brower
Mood and Mode: The Art of Jim Brower is on view now through August 31 at the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library’s Main Library, located in downtown Toledo at 325 Michigan St. The exhibit is located in the Gallery, located on the second level of Main Library.
The display features 53 watercolor, and pen and ink drawings, along with various commercial art illustrations of Brower, who has operated fine art and advertising design and illustration studios since 1932, originally in Charleston and Huntington, West Virginia, and since 1943 in Toledo.
From 1992 until 1997, he also was Director of Art and Design for Meeks Heit Publishing Company, a leading producer of educational health materials, a number of whose books he illustrated.
In the painting field, Jim, who is in his early 90s, is a realist by nature and a watercolorist by choice. He is a consistent exhibitor in state, regional and national shows and has achieved signature membership in the Ohio, Kentucky and Georgia watercolor societies, as well as the National Watercolor Society and the Transparent Watercolor Society of America. He is an honorary life member of the Ohio Watercolor Society.
Jim is listed in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in the World. The listings honor his many years in advertising art and his accomplishments as a fine artist. His more than seventy watercolor painting awards have included the Watercolor Ohio ’84 Gold medal, the 1990 Georgia Watercolor Society Gold Medal, and awards in the San Diego International, National Watercolor Society and Oklahoma Watercolor Society exhibitions.
Jim’s paintings have been included in The Creative Artist, North Light books, 1990; Best of Watercolor: Painting Composition, Quarry Books, 1997; The Best of Watercolor 2, 1997. In 2003, Jim wrote and self-published Mood and Mode, an anecdotal account of his long life in both commercial and fine art, illustrated with his work in both fields.
Jim has served as president of the Northwestern Ohio Watercolor Society and of the Toledo Federation of Art Societies. He served on the board of the Ohio Watercolor Society from 1986 to 1992.

Great to hear about your show. I get Google alerts for GWS still and was thrilled to read about your show! I still have your signed book you sent me a few years ago. I will tell my sister-in-law who lives in Toledo about your show. Hopefully she will get back in town for it.
Best Regards,
Kathy Rennell Forbes
