EOPA Urban Greens & Sprouts Community Gardens Tour
Imagine walking out your front door, down a few houses to beautiful neighborhood garden that is overflowing with juicy fruit and vibrant vegetables! You know how good they’ll taste in your homemade “spicy salsa” or that famous “vegetable soup” recipe because you planted them yourself and you watched them grow from seedlings to sprouts! That’s the concept behind Economic Opportunity Planning Association’s (EOPA) Urban Greens & Sprouts Community Gardens. EOPA has committed to twelve of the freshest gardens throughout the city to help transform them into gardens that will provide access to the freshest produce for our neighbors and community organizations, and also provide sources which could be used to educate and cultivate a healthier sustainable community.
Join us for a Ribbon-cutting and preview of the Urban Greens & Sprouts Community Gardens on Saturday, August 14th from 9 a.m. - Noon. Be prepared to be overwhelmed by a sense of community, a love for the environment and a genuine good time. Four of twelve community garden sites which are conveniently located at 725 Belmont Ave., 536 High St., 701 Vance St. and 640 Indiana Ave., will be FREE and open to the public. Activities will include live broadcasts, refreshments, light fare, and special presentations. You won’t want to miss out hearing tips from gardening celebrities and you’ll definitely want to partake in the cooking demonstrations offered by Diana Patton and Toledo Seagate Food Bank officials. Not to mention, at each garden stop, you will receive a special gift* that will assist you in cultivating your own personal garden.
