“Vernacular Form” ~ Exhibit Opening of Print Arts by Ryan McCollough

ALMA is pleased to perform at the opening of "Vernacular Form", an exhibition of contemporary prints and drawings by Dayton artist, Ryan McCoullough, to be held at Integration Yoga Studio. The opening takes place Saturday, July 24, 6pm-10pm, light refreshments will be provided. Ryan's work is on display at Integration Yoga Studio from July 14 - August 31.
ALMA’s performance is from 7:30pm-8:30pm. This event is free and open to the public.

“Winter Legacies” @ The Toledo Museum of Art, The Great Gallery

This is ALMA's 8th appearance in the museum's Winter Legacies annual series! This year ALMA will be showcasing more new costumes, as well as, new dances & rhythms, including a piece from Artistic Director Yaya Kabo’s native Senegal. This performance is free and open to the public ~ ALMA thanks Judy Weinberg & the Toledo Museum of Art for their continued support!

ALMA Artistic Director and Senegalese Master Drummer Yaya Kabo offers a 4-week series of classes for all students of djembe drumming. Classes are $25 per session or $75 for all four classes prepaid. Pre-register by calling 419-381-2755, or 419-A-OM-YOGA (266-9642). (Classes follow a 4 week on, 1 week off schedule.) ALMA Drum & Dance members Allison Kodeih, Yaya Kabo & Pevely instruct ALMA’s West African Dance technique class. The classes are $10 per individual session, or $35 for all four classes prepaid. Participants are encouraged to pre-register by calling, 419-A-OM-YOGA (266-9642). (Classes follow a 4 week on, 1 week off schedule.) Each class features a warm up, traditional dance technique, choreography, along with, live drumming. No experience is necessary; a great work out and easy to learn. ALMA Dance Experience, LLC is a group of professional musicians and dancers bonded in the study, performance and sharing of traditional West African Drum & Dance, and Modern Dance. ALMA exists to celebrate dance and music, to bring dance and music to everyone, to celebrate the non-traditional artist, and to capitalize on the talents each individual brings to the group, to the stage and to the classroom. ALMA is also dedicated to collaboration; working with other artists to build a larger dance and music community.
ALMA Dance Experience has been a company since 2003, but the core of our group has been working together for more than a decade, and among our group members we have multiple decades of professional experience in a wide variety of music, dance, and performance styles. ALMA is proud to be under the Artistic Direction of Yaya Kabo, internationally acclaimed performer and instructor, originally from Casamance, Sengal. As a group we are committed to artistic excellence through continuous study, performance, and sharing of our art forms.
