TMA Seeks Entries for Winter Ball Film Festival

The Toledo Museum of Art is inviting artists to submit short videos to a film festival planned in conjunction with the Museum’s Winter Ball in December.
The Winter Ball Film Festival will spotlight exciting and innovative winter-inspired short films with the premier screening of the best entries at the Ball.
Art museums all over the country are giving more attention to video, according to Rod Bigelow, interim executive director and chief operating officer of the Museum. “The festival showcase will provide an opportunity to take a look at the genre and see what artists are saying,” he said.
The juried competition is open to both amateur and professional filmmakers. Each winter-themed video must be less than four minutes in length. Up to 15 videos will be chosen for the festival.
The panel of judges will look for videos that create an art experience with a contemporary theme. Films must be inspired by winter and be innovative, original and surprising, regardless of genre, technique or budget. Entries may use animation, motion graphics, narrative, non-narrative, time-based still image and other production techniques. Typical “home video” will not be considered.
Entrants must be 18 years of age by Oct. 11, 2010 or have parental permission to take part. Submissions must contain only original work and should not have been created for commercial purposes or made in an entrant’s professional capacity for profit. Individuals may submit up to three films each.
Entries will be accepted online between Oct. 11 and Nov. 12. Those whose films are chosen for screening will be notified by Dec. 3 and will receive an invitation to attend the Winter Ball, a fundraiser to support the Museum’s community ArtReach programs. Selected films will also be screened at the Museum at a later date.
