Artist Reception @ Pam's Corner, 116 10th Street, Downtown Toledo
Dan Newland is a resident of The Old West End, in Toledo. He holds a BFA in Digital Production from the University of Arizona. Dan has been drawing the human form since high school in Adrian, MI. He is currently a dislocated worker who has returned to school at 41 to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering. Fortunately, he receives help from the WFA (Workforce Investment Act) through The Source.
Artist Statement: I find the contortions of the human form fascinating. I enjoy placing as many of them together on the canvas as possible. I attempt to do this while keeping them all from touching. I think the intertwining of people without directly interacting is a reflection of the way the world has become. There are too many people out of work, out of their homes, out of their minds and I've tried to give them a place in my paintings.
