Wood County Mutt Strut 2010
The Wood County Humane Society is hosting its annual Mutt Strut on Saturday, September 25, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Wood County Park District’s scenic W.W. Knight Preserve in Perrysburg. Registration starts at 9:30 am.
This popular event is a major fundraiser for the humane society. “Walkers - with or without dogs - will have a great time ‘strutting their stuff’ to help raise money to care for the animals at our no-kill Minniebelle Conley Shelter,” stated Maggie Leonard, fundraising co-chair for WCHS. “We hope to make this the biggest and best Mutt Strut yet,” she added, “and all proceeds will provide support to Wood County animals and owners in need.
This year’s Mutt Strut will include raffles, games and contests, including the popular Beauty Pawgeant, judged by 13abc news personality Lissa Guyton. Vendors may set up tables along the route for a nominal fee.
Individuals may walk with a pet or one of the shelter dogs or they may choose to walk with a family member or friend – or even a brave cat or parrot – for $15. There is no minimum distance to walk. Walkers who collect $50 or more in pledges will receive a 2010 WCHS Mutt Strut t-shirt. The top fundraisers for both adult and child categories will receive prize packages, and all walkers will receive ‘goodie bags’ with coupons and samples from local businesses.
Pledge forms are available at the Wood County Humane Society, 801 Van Camp Road during regular business hours: Wednesday to Sunday, 12 noon - 4 p.m. and Thursday, 12 noon - 7 p.m.; at the following local businesses: The Flying Bean in Levis Commons, Jones Veterinary Hospital and Dr. Ernsthausen’s Veterinary Clinic in Bowling Green; and online at www.WoodCountyHumaneSociety.org
Join the fun and come out and support this worthwhile cause. The Wood County Humane Society is a non-profit organization serving Wood County. Its mission is to provide quality care for abused, homeless, neglected and abandoned animals in the community at its no-kill animal shelter until they find homes. WCHS cared for more than 400 animals in 2009. Their humane agent investigates cruelty and neglect reports, and has rescued more than two dozen animals, from parrots and pigs to horses, during the summer of 2010. Dedicated staff and volunteers also provide advice and education to the public, SNIP information on low-cost spay/neuter programs and community education.
This year’s walk is sponsored in part by Pat McCutchan-Vernier, M.D. and Rick Vernier, Lamar Outdoor Advertising, Toledo City Paper & Toledo Area Parent, Union Bank, and the Wood County Park District.
