Lourdes Lifelong Learning seminars feature survivors of war, the financial meltdown and more ?Outings to Palazzo di Bocce and Fox Theatre ?

In addition to the variety of fall classes being offered, Lourdes’ Lifelong Learning program is also launching a series of one-day seminars and outings including:

“Why Wars Never Seem to End” – Friday, October 15?Led by Lourdes College Assistant Professor of Biology & Health Sciences Sr. Marya Czech, SND. Following her presentation will be a short discussion focusing on hot topics such as the fall elections, led by Dr. Christine Myers at 12 noon. Franciscan Theatre & Conference Center, 10 a.m. This event is only open to Lifelong Learning members and is $10 per person (includes lunch). Registration is due by October 8.

Palazzo di Bocce – Friday, October 29?Guests will visit Michigan’s unique and upscale sporting venue in Lake Orion and have fun playing bocce ball on indoor courts. All that’s needed to play is a spirit of fun and good sportsmanship! Guests will be able to watch other bocce ball games while dining courtside. Wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes. Bus departs from Lourdes College Parking Lot C at 9:30 a.m. and returns at 6 p.m. Cost is $49 (Includes bus, lunch and bocce ball). Registration is due October 22.

“The Financial Meltdown & Government Intervention” – Monday, November 8?Led by Chair of Business & Leadership Studies at Lourdes College Dr. Dean Ludwig. The seminar will discuss the financial downturn that happened beginning in September 2008 including factual details surrounding the collapse and the role that the government played. Franciscan Theatre & Conference Center Board Room. Registration is $20 per person and is due by November 1 (includes lunch).

“Honor Flight Northwest Ohio” – Friday, November 19?Led by retired Sports Director of WNWO Jim Tichy. Franciscan Theatre & Conference Center, 10 a.m. Cost is $TBD per person (includes lunch). Registration is due by TBD.

GREASE – Saturday, December 4 ?GREASE, Time Magazine's 2007 pick for "#1 musical of the year," comes to Detroit’s legendary Fox Theatre, in this new production direct from Broadway. Now starring Laverne & Shirley's Eddie Mekka (Carmine "the big ragu" Ragusa) as DJ Vince Fontaine. Don’t miss this opportunity to see Broadway’s thirteenth longest-running show. Bus departs from Lourdes College Parking Lot C at Noon and returns at 7 p.m. Cost is $69 (Includes bus and show). Registration is due by November 27. The bus will stop for dinner in the banquet room at Old Country Buffet in Southgate, MI.

“Humorous American Presidents” – Friday, December 17?Led by retired Dean of Arts and Sciences at Owens Community College Dr. Gerry Bazer. Rosary Care Center, 10 a.m. Cost is $15 per person (includes a Christmas lunch buffet). Registration is due by December 10.
