ALMA is pleased to now be a part of the weekly Monday Night Zumba class with Karen Everage at Studio Fitness! This Monday evening class features 30 minutes of Zumba & 30 minutes of ALMA West African Dance, and puts the emphasis on the FITNESS & FUN that can be attained through these 2 complimentary activities, with Zumba serving as an excellent warm up and energizing entrance into the ALMA West African Dance class. LIVE drumming for both classes, featuring not only ALMA drummers Yaya Kabo & Pevely, but also well known/well loved Toledo-based drummer/percussionist Rico Rosario, and other amazing community drummers. ALMA brings back West African Dance to IYS on Tuesday evenings for the 3rd year in a row! We've changed up the schedule just a bit for this popular and growing class, but beginning September 14th, we'll have a class every Tuesday evening until our Student Recital on Sunday, December 12th.
ALMA will offer an "open class" on 9/14 & 10/19 ~ this class is open to EVERYONE, no experience necessary, and offers a taste of what we do on a regular basis. After each "open class", ALMA will offer a "4-week series" for those dancers that want to go deeper into the study. Series classes will concentrate on one rhythm, build during the 4 weeks, and then build toward recital performance.
Autumn Session 1:
September 14th ~ Open Class ~ Everyone is welcome to this ALMA West African Dance class offering a taste of traditional West African moves to live drumming, in an inclusive & energetic setting! This open class is a sample of an ALMA West African dance class. No experience necessary. Open dance classes $10 per participant.
Sept 21st, Sept 28th, October 5th, Oct 12th ~ 4 week class series; the 4-week series focuses on 1 traditional West African dance style ("Kassa") and builds technique each week. Drop-ins are welcome, but the focus is on returning students. All dance classes $10 per person; participants can still pre-pay for a 4 class series @ $35 for 4 classes.
