Arts Commission of Greater Toledo Announces
The Gallery Loop
Art Galleries, Artists Studios & Entertainment Venues
in Downtown Toledo Open from 6-10pm
Free Gallery Bus Loops between Venues
Friday, October 15, 2010

Want a buffet of art and creativity? Get on the bus.

One of the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo’s (ACGT) most popular programs returns this month, and bigger than ever! The Gallery Loop (formerly the Meet & Greet series) offers local art lovers and entertainment seekers an evening of complimentary bus rides to 30 local venues – making this autumn’s event the largest to date!

The Gallery Loop will feature three free Bus Loops circling three separate parts of Downtown Toledo simultaneously, joined together at one convenient Transfer Location. Why? It’s simple: If you get to more venues faster, you get to absorb more art.?

How it Works
The Red Loop will explore the Arts Zone, Warehouse District, and lower Uptown, the Blue Loop ventures into Uptown proper and the Old West End, and new this season, the Yellow Loop takes visitors into the up-and-coming Historic Old South End neighborhood and the southern-most stop of the Arts Zone. Want to change Loops? It’s easy. Visitors can transfer to a different colored loop at the 333 Gallerie at Toledo School for the Arts.

The Gallery Loops are a biannual event, offered in the spring and fall each year as part of the ACGT’s Live Work Create Toledo program, which explores economic development and revitalization through the arts. The Gallery Loops are a free, fun way to help acclimate the citizens of Greater Toledo to the exciting creativity happening in the city’s core, and to become familiar with the arts and entertainment venues and studios concentrated in Downtown Toledo and its arts and entertainment districts and creative neighborhoods.

We invite you to come out and experience the wealth of artistic activity in our community. The event is free and open to the public. There is no designated starting point for the event; visitors may catch the bus at or near any participating venue. ?

More than 100 original works of glass by many of the area’s leading artists, as well as prominent national and international artists are featured in the show.

In 2008, the Hot Glass auction helped ACGT raise $80,000 dollars to benefit its programs and services, including the Gallery Loop.

Valentine Theatre
Paid parking available in lot across the street on Superior

www.valentinetheatre.com

The Valentine Theatre's Board of Directors commissioned local artist Paul Geiger to create a mural depicting many of the well-known performers who had appeared on the Valentine stage between the period of 1895 to 1920. Mr. Geiger spent 12 months researching the history of the stage artists and in 2003 he stretched 68' 6" of canvas 10' high in his studio. Given the creative liberty to select those artists that he felt would best be remembered for their work, he spent the following five years working on the mural. In June of 2008 it was presented to the community. This project is the largest public painting ever installed in Toledo. According to Paul Geiger, "What I find most satisfying about this project is that it was a private initiative by Toledo citizens, paid for with a wide variety of private donations from a large group of Toledoans and painted by a Toledo artist." To assist audience members in appreciating the rich history of performances at the Valentine, a booklet has been created that explains the characters and their significance to the field of performance.
