Toledo Youth Orchestra Concert this Sunday at the Peristyle
Toledo, OH – The Toledo Youth Orchestra (TYO), currently in its 61st year, will perform its first concert this Sunday, October 17th at 4PM in the Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle. This year the TYO includes two full orchestras, the Philharmonic and the Symphonic, formerly the Sinfonietta String Orchestra, with 170 students from 35 local schools.
TYO Music Director Ken Thompson says, “This concert will feature approximately 170 of the most talented students from all over NW Ohio and SE Michigan. Music includes a world premiere along with works by Beethoven, Bizet, Berlioz and others.”
Philharmonic is directed my Ken Thompson, the Symphonic is directed by Wasim Hawary – with assistant conductors Mark Irwin and Bryan Troutman.
The TYO Philharmonic and Symphonic orchestras will perform four concerts this season, including the annual Pops Concert on May 13, 2011 and a Side-By-Side concert with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra (TSO) on April 10, 2011. All of the students participate in regularly scheduled clinics with the TSO, and many of the youth orchestra members study privately with TSO musicians.
TYO regular season concerts are free and open to the public (including this Sunday’s performance). The spring Pops and Side-By-Side concerts are paid ticketed events.
