The Egypt Experience: Secrets of the Tomb

Opening:
Oct. 29, 2010 at Toledo Museum of Art in Toledo, Ohio USA

Venue:
Installation in a new specially designed Lower Level Egyptian Gallery, Main
Museum

Significance:
This is the first exhibition to focus on individual people and the objects
associated with them to tell stories, spanning 3,500 years, of how Egyptians
made great efforts to ensure the preservation of both body and spirit in
tombs they considered to be "houses of eternity." The Egypt Experience also
demonstrates as never before cultural change over that time period.

Content:
Visitors will "meet" a dozen ancient Egyptians, explore their hopes and
preparations for the afterlife, and learn how art played an integral role in their
tombs. The installation includes some 150 objects, many from the Museum's
own collection but also wonderful objects on loan from The Metropolitan
Museum of Art, The Field Museum of Chicago, Indiana University Art Museum,
the Oriental Institute Museum at the University of Chicago and individual
collectors.

Highlights:
The Museum's popular mummies return to public view for this exploration of
ancient Egyptian beliefs about life and the afterlife.
