Lourdes Exhibition Celebrates Art as Therapy

Posted: Wednesday, October 20, 2010 by: Erin Szavuly | Category: Arts and Entertainment

Three student organizations at Lourdes College – Literati, Orbis Ars and the Pre-Art Therapy
Association (Pre-ATA) – are presenting the art exhibition “ Communicating through Art,” November 9
through 11 in the Ebeid Student Center located in the lower level of Delp Hall.

“Communicating through Art” will honor individuals who have created artwork or performance
art as a means of expression during happy, traumatic or life-changing experiences. Art work displayed in
the exhibition is personal and has helped individuals get through a broad range of circumstances in their
life. All forms of art including but not limited to poetry/spoken word, music, paintings and photography
are included.

Pre-ATA Public Relations Chair Ashley Cappelletty, whose work will be featured in “Communicating Through Art,” has often looked to art for inspiration, reflection and/or healing
purposes. “ My work is made spontaneously in the height of an emotion or idea that I felt the need to express,” shares Ashley. “ In any media I work in, my emotions and mental imagery is the focus of the work and conveys an event or significant part in my life.”

Free and open to the public. For more information, contact Department of Art Chair Erin Szavuly at [email protected] or Ashley Cappelletty at [email protected].

Literati encourages interest in and understanding of literature and writing and provides
opportunities for student and alumni writers and readers of literature to network and mentor one other. Orbis Ars is the student art organization of Lourdes College and promotes the arts on campus and off through various events, activities and outings. Pre-ATA is an undergraduate association of students, educators, and individuals who support the therapeutic use of art and who are dedicated to provide and increase an awareness of art as a unique and universal form of self expression and communication.
