National Gaming Day @ Your Library! – Bring Your Game Face!
(Released November 2, 2010) – Throughout the month of November, the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library will observe National Gaming Day @ Your Library!, a campaign started by the American Library Association (ALA) that will have its official third annual observation nationwide on Saturday, November 13. Our local Library system has designed several days of gaming fun for school age patrons, teens and families!
What is National Gaming Day @ Your Library? In the 21st century, libraries are about much more than books. The campaign debuted in 2008, when hundreds of libraries throughout the country showcased gaming programs and services, from board games to high-tech offerings. According to the ALA, gaming of all types at the library encourages young patrons to interact with a diverse group of peers, share their expertise with others (including adults), and develop new strategies for gaming and learning. About 75 percent of public libraries support gaming, by offering computer or board gaming, circulating games, or offering gaming events, areas and programs.
