Woman Blessing Women Hosts Fifth Annual Chili and Soup Fest
TOLEDO, OHIO (Tuesday, November 9, 2010) -- Women Blessing Women (WBW), a local non-profit, will host its fifth annual chili and soup fest on November 14, 2010 from 11:30 am to 3 pm at Notre Dame Academy (3535 Sylvania Ave).
The event is open to the public and all proceeds benefit WBW, an organization dedicated to changing the lives of Toledo-area women by breaking the cycle of poverty. With its mission to serve, bless and empower women, WBW, in 2009 alone, served more than 480 participants. Of those participants, 10 enrolled in college, 10 earned GEDs and 29% advanced a grade level. In addition, 25% of WBW participants are actively employed.
“The soup and chili fest is an opportunity to share with the community the difference Women Blessing Women is making in the greater Toledo area,” says Laurie Neary, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors. “Area residents can enjoy a warm meal and support a critical need in the community.”
At least 10 chili or soup recipes will be available for tasting.
Women Blessing Women strives to serve, bless and empower women to achieve their potential, to obtain living wage jobs, and the break the cycle of poverty. Thousands of women have been served in the 11-year history of the organization, many of whom have experienced homelessness, domestic violence, and/or substance abuse. Through Women Blessing Women, the women receive basic job, education and empowerment skills training.
“A comprehensive approach that creates long-term solutions for women facing great barriers to success is the only way to overcome the cycle of poverty,” says Neary. “The chili and soup fest is a major source of funding to help us do just that. We are grateful for the support of the community and its generous donations.”
