After-school Program Celebrates 7th year in Perrysburg
International afterschool program celebrates seventh year in Perrysburg
Festive open house planned
Kumon, the world’s largest after-school enrichment program, is celebrating its seventh year in the Perrysburg community with an open house on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 from 7 to 9 pm.
The event includes food, children's entertainment and a raffle for a $50 Gift Card to Books –A –Million. Attendees also will be able to tour the Center, receive information about the Kumon method of learning and schedule free placement testing for their children.
“Kumon gives children an appreciation of learning and motivates them to achieve more on their own,” said center director of Perrysburg Kumon, Christine Cady. “My aim is to help develop a child’s motivation to excel both in and outside the classroom.”
Cady first opened the Kumon Math and Reading Center of Perrysburg more than seven years ago for her own children and since then has educated thousands of students in the community.
Founded in Japan in 1958, Kumon’s learning method uses an individualized approach that helps children from preschool to high school develop a solid command of math and reading skills. Through daily practice and mastery of materials, students increase confidence, improve concentration and develop better study skills.
The tutoring business is growing at a rate of more than 5 percent a year according to the Education Industry Association, making it a viable business for entrepreneurs seeking personal, professional and financial satisfaction.
“Education has always been an important part of our community,” Cady added. “Kumon is helping millions of children reach their full learning potential and as a Kumon parent I see this happening first hand with my own children.”
Students attend sessions at the Kumon Center once or twice a week for approximately 15-30 minutes per subject and complete short daily assignments at home on the other days of the week.
The Kumon Math and Reading Center of Perrysburg is open Mondays and Thursdays from 3 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 am to 12 pm.
