Annual Winterim Fair Offers Students Opportunity to Share Experiences
Gained Locally and Abroad
Upper School students at Maumee Valley Country Day School have spent the month of November scattered throughout the world. They are enhancing their overall learning experience with intensive study of one subject of their choosing.
Some Maumee Valley students are involved in unique courses on the Maumee Valley campus that are only offered during the school’s focused study program, known as Winterim. Others are experiencing business entrepreneurship throughout the Toledo area. Still others have traveled as far as Mexico, Sweden and even China. No matter their location or the subject matter, each student will come away from his or her Winterim encounter more knowledgeable, culturally aware and experienced.
As part of the Winterim courses, students are required to participate in the Winterim Fair to be held Tuesday, November 23, 2010, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Maumee Valley, 1715 S. Reynolds Road. Students spend the first part of their Winterim on the Maumee Valley campus studying various immigration issues before heading to Arizona and Mexico to witness these issues first hand. Students and guides are hosted by BORDERLINKS, a charity-based educational program that serves the immigrant communities of northern Mexico and Southern Arizona, while in Tucson, as well as Maumee Valley’s sister school, Green Fields Country Day School. Throughout their Winterim experience, students are collecting information and conducting interviews in order to develop a short documentary which will be presented at the Winterim Fair.
