A hilarious farce by America's premier comic playwright
Toledo School for the Arts (TSA) presents Neil Simon’s Rumors, a quintessential farce equipped with timely door slamming, untimely and embarrassing entrances, and physical humor worthy of the accolades the comedy first received in 1988. Rumors runs February 10 to 13, 2011 in the Toledo Repertoire’s 10th Street Theater.
The set up for the comedy sounds more like the beginning of a joke: An accountant, a lawyer, a therapist and a state senator walk into a dinner party…. What the guests slowly realize is that the host lies bleeding in the other room, with his wife’s and the servants’ whereabouts unknown. The comedy piques as the well-to-do guests attempt to keep the details of the events from the local police and the media.
Rosie Best, Toledo School for the Arts’ theater teacher and Rumors’ director, chose the American farce as a striking change from last year’s production of Brian Friel’s Dancing at Lughnasa. “Lughnasa was both a deep character study. Rumors is a high physical comedy, challenging students in a much different way than last year’s drama.”
Performances are at 7:00 PM Thursday, Friday, and Saturday February 10 – 12th. Sunday February 13th, the matinee starts at 2:30 PM.
