Military Genealogy Workshop at Fort Meigs Still Registering
PERRYSBURG, Ohio-
Have you ever wondered if one of your ancestors served in the U.S. military and if so, where you can find more information on their service? Fort Meigs and the Ohio Historical Society will help you answer these questions and show you the resources available to research your ancestor's military service. Liz Plummer, archivist and reference services manager, and John Haas, military historian, will lead a workshop to help you discover your ancestor’s military past. This course will review the different kinds of records that are available in relation to a particular conflict. Draft records, military service records, pension files, rosters and militia records will be discussed in detail. You will learn what information is in these records, how the information was obtained, where the records are located and how to access them.
In commemoration of the upcoming Bicentennial of the War of 1812 and the Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War, special emphasis will be placed on researching War of 1812 and American Civil War veterans. However, multiple time periods in military history will be covered.
Cost for the workshop is $20 ($15 for Ohio Historical Society members) and registration is required. The workshop will be conducted on Wednesday, March 9th from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Please note this is the same workshop and you need only to attend one date. Please chose one date and make sure you specify that date when you make your reservation.
