Central Catholic Welcomes Author of Remember This Titan
On April 4, Central Catholic High School will welcome Steve Sullivan, author of Remember This Titan, as the featured speaker in the CCHS Reads program. He will speak at a 2:00 p.m. assembly in the CCHS Sullivan Center. The assembly is free and open to the general public.
Remember This Titan chronicles the story of football coach Bill Yoast and the life lessons that can be learned from his journey. Bill Yoast was one of the coaches in the hit movie, Remember the Titans, about the struggles of a racially divided high school football team as they try to earn a championship in Virginia in 1972. Sullivan’s book portrays Yoast as he molds the lives of his young players through his inspirational coaching style.
The students at Central Catholic have been reading the book, and teachers are incorporating it into classroom lessons in many subject areas. The project will culminate with Sullivan’s personal visit to the school to address students, staff, and special guests.
Steve Sullivan is a best-selling author, educator, and motivational speaker. In 1994, he founded Motivational Resources to enhance the effectiveness of individuals in leadership and sales positions by delivering multi-faceted, high performance training programs that can be easily understood and quickly adapted.
The CCHS Reads program began at Central Catholic during the 2006-07 school year to encourage students to read for fun. In the program, teachers and students read the same book and then study it as it is integrated into classroom lessons. CCHS Reads is designed to promote lifelong reading by encouraging students to read and discuss an author’s work before and after the author visits the school for an all-school assembly.
