Local Library Officials to Attend Legislative Day 2011
(Released March 23, 2011) – As an energized contingency of Library directors, employees, trustees, business leaders, supporters and friends representing 251 public libraries throughout the state of Ohio, the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library is scheduled to attend Ohio Library Council Legislative Day 2011 tomorrow, Thursday, March 24 in Columbus.
Organized by the Ohio Library Council (OLC www.olc.org ), Legislative Day 2011 provides an opportunity for Library representatives to speak directly with legislators on the role their public libraries play in education and early literacy, and restoring the economy. Hundreds of Library officials are expected to wear red on Legislative Day as a sign of unity.
In response to Ohio Governor John Kasich’s proposed State Biennium Budget, the OLC’s Government Relations Committee met and reviewed the budget proposal in order to inform library officials about its impact to library systems.
The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library is scheduled to send 21 representatives to Legislative Day 2011, including Clyde Scoles, Director and Margaret Danziger, Deputy Director, to attend a public hearing on libraries and meet with the following legislators and/or their assistants: Matt Szollosi, Teresa Fedor, Edna Brown, Michael Ashford and Barbara Sears.
“We plan to inform our legislators of the numerous resources available at the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library and review with them the long list of services we provide Lucas County residents. Last year alone, we welcomed nearly 3 million visitors through our doors – that’s more than any other Lucas County institution. Our public library system is desperately needed in Lucas County,” said Scoles.
