Independent Advocates 3rd Annual SuperFUNdraiser Party!
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 6, 2011--
On Thursday April 28, 2011 Independent Advocates, a social change organization whose mission is to improve the community’s response to Domestic Violence, presents the 3rd Annual SuperFUNdraiser Party at Wesley’s Bar in Uptown Toledo. This signature event, being held on April 28th from 6:00 to midnight, couples the community movement to stop domestic violence with a variety of SuperFUN games and activities, including a Bocce Ball Tournament, Bakesale, Pay to sing Karaoke, a Netbook raffle, and a back room reading featuring Toledo Poetry Museum.
During these extremely slim economic times resulting in the discontinuation of IA’s federal grants, this event aims to boost awareness and raise money to benefit the local non-profit agency, Independent Advocates. Founded in 2007 by Rebecca Facey and Rachel Richardson, IA grew out of a need to fill gaps in services provided to survivors of domestic violence in the Toledo/Lucas County Court system. The comprehensive court advocacy program was IA’s flagship program and the agency has now evolved into a vehicle for social change and a leader in the local movement to stop domestic violence. Their mission is to improve the community’s response to domestic violence. In the past three years, IA has served over 300 women in the court system and has provided community education to thousands through presentations, a Public Service Announcement, and promotional materials all reminding the community that “It’s OUR responsibility to STOP domestic violence!”
The 3rd Annual Independent Advocates SuperFUNdraiser Party is scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm on Thursday April 28, 2011 and end at Midnight. The space for the party is, as always, being generously donated to IA by Mike Roberts of Wesley’s Bar at 1201 Adams Street in UpTown Toledo. And in true Toledo form, volunteers are coming from every direction to bake for the bakesale, and participate in the Bocce Ball tournament and buy tickets for the Netbook raffle. These community members are anxious to get involved in the movement to stop Domestic Violence. You can get involved too, simply by attending this event and buying a brownie or throwing a couple dollars in a purple bucket. For more information on how to get involved with the local movement to stop domestic violence you may contact Rachel or Rebecca at Independent Advocates. www.iatoledo.org. Or check our facebook page.
