Unison BHG's "Live to Celebrate Another Day" Contest!

Posted: Thursday, April 21, 2011 by: Kitty Slight | Category: Community Interest

Unison Behavioral Health Group has launched a special contest as part of its Spring 2011 “Live to Celebrate Another Day” prevention campaign, funded by the Mental Health & Recovery Services Board of Lucas County. Lucas County teens can visit the Unison website and download the “Live to Celebrate Another Day” sober contract and contest entry forms. Each teen who submits a signed sober contract and entry form will be entered for a chance to win a FREE iPad 2 valued at $499. “While the response to our sober contract initiative has been overwhelmingly positive, from teens and their parents, we wanted to provide something special as an extra incentive,” said Dr. Larry Hamme, Chief Clinical Officer for Unison. “Teens today are all about the latest technology and the Apple iPad 2 is something students are using for both entertainment and study.”

Entering Unison’s “Live to Celebrate Another Day” contest is easy. Visit the Unison website at www.unisonbhg.org, click on the “Celebrating Prom and Graduation Safely” link, download and complete the sober contract and have a parent or caring adult sign the entry form. Mail completed entry forms to:

“Live to Celebrate Another Day”
Unison Behavioral Health Group
1425 Starr Avenue
Toledo, Ohio 43605

One winner will be chosen at random following the close of the contest. The winner will be notified by email.

Unison’s Spring 2011 prevention campaign targets Lucas County teens and their parents during the Spring prom and graduation timeframe--a time shown to be especially dangerous for teens. One third of alcohol-related traffic fatalities involving teens occur during the prom and graduation months of April – June. The “Live to Celebrate Another Day” campaign launched officially in early April and includes a combination of traditional and social media outreach tactics.

“We are especially concerned about Lucas County teens now,” said Dr. Hamme. A recent survey by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) indicates that on average 13.2 percent of all persons 16 or older drive under the influence of alcohol and 4.3 percent of this age group drove under the influence of illicit drugs in the past year. According to Dr. Hamme, the survey’s state-by-state breakdown of drunk and drugged driving levels shows significant differences among the states. Ohio has a high rate of driving under the influence of alcohol compared to other states and was in the mid-range of people driving under the influence of illicit drugs.

Unison’s objective is to provide support to Lucas County high schools and parent groups, many of whom have prevention programs in place. By encouraging teens and their parents to sign sober contracts, the “Live to Celebrate Another Day” campaign focuses on increasing public awareness of the risks and danger associated with the Spring prom and graduation season.
