Thousands Expected to Visit Toledo Train Station

Toledo’s annual celebration of trains and train travel is Saturday, April 30, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the historic Amtrak station (415 Emerald St.) and upstairs at the restored Grand Lobby of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Plaza. All events are free and parking is free. Additional parking is available at Owens Corning World Headquarters with a shuttle to the station. According to Amtrak officials, Train Day in Toledo is one of the largest Train Day celebrations in the country.

Train Day events will include:
Tours of an Amtrak passenger car
Norfolk Southern is bringing in its locomotive simulator, used for training and certification of railroad engineers
Drawing for train travel
Huge operating model train layouts in the Grand Lobby
Music, art, food, children’s activities on both floors

Train Day opens at 9:30 a.m. with public comments from elected officials and transportation professionals. Expected to speak are State Representative Teresa Fedor; President & CEO, Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority Paul Toth; Deputy Mayor-External Affairs, City of Toledo Thomas Crothers; and City of Toledo Councilman Mike Craig. Derrick James will represent Amtrak and TMACOG President Tony Reams will emcee.
