Making Strides Walk May 7 at Levis Commons
MAKING STRIDES. More than 4,000 will gather Saturday, May 7, for a non-competitive 5K walk to raise funds to support life-saving cancer research, education, advocacy and patient services. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., and the walk gets underway at 9:30 a.m. To register as a team or an individual walker, please visit makingstrides.acsevents.org/NWOhio.
Levis Commons will be the setting for many activities in conjunction with Making Strides Against Breast Cancer:
Entertainment: A variety of organizations are providing encouragement for walkers and entertainment for spectators during the event, including:
• Toledo Fire Fighters pipe & drums
• Perrysburg High School marching band
• Perrysburg Sophisticates baton team
• Courtney’s Dance Force
• Sheltered Reality drum corps
• Inspire Salon hair tinseling station
• Aegela Center Middle Eastern Dance
• Central Catholic High School cheerleaders
• St. John’s High School marching band
Michael Lang: Cancer has impacted the lives of Toledo Ballet members, and they have responded by creating beauty from the tragedy. In their performance during the Making Strides walk May 7, members will present two original dances that illustrate life beyond the struggle: The Sun Will Rise, and Division Beyond Limits. They will perform along the walk route near the Hilton Garden Inn and Nagoya Japanese Steakhouse.
Battle of the Brassiere: Decorate a bra about the battle against breast cancer and you may win the 2011 Battle of the Brassiere! Bras are being collected through May 1 at Lily’s at Levis Commons. They will be displayed during the walk for viewing and voting. Votes are $1.00 each; $5.00 in votes earns a $5.00 Max and Erma’s gift card.
MAKING A DIFFERENCE. Participants and visitors to the 5th Annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer can enroll in the American Cancer Society’s third Cancer Prevention Study (CPS-3). Volunteers in this national cancer prevention program must be between the ages of 30 and 65, and have no personal history of cancer. The American Cancer Society is hoping to enroll 500,000 adults from various racial / ethnic backgrounds in the national program.
