See native animals up close at 'Walk For Wildlife'
Nature’s Nursery, a nonprofit wildlife rehabilitation and conservation education organization serving northwest Ohio, will host its 3rd Annual “Walk For Wildlife” on Saturday, June 11, at the Blue Creek Conservation Area, 7790 Schadel Rd., Whitehouse, OH. The event is open to the public with registration at 9:30 am, followed by the walk at 10 am.
Participants will walk a one-mile course, stopping along the way for ongoing programs and activities at education stations sponsored by Nature’s Nursery and its partner organizations, including the Metroparks, Ohio Young Birders Club/Black Swamp Bird Observatory, USDA/Natural Resources Conservation Service, Lourdes College Life Lab, and others.
“This year, we are particularly excited to announce a partnership with Cornell University’s ‘Celebrate Urban Birds’ program,” explains Event Chairman Denise Gehring. “One new activity resulting from this partnership will be a 10-minute ‘citizen science’ bird survey challenge to be conducted by participants, with data to be submitted to Cornell for inclusion in their world-renowned ornithology research.”
Among other new or expanded activities this year will be make-and-take craft projects led by artists from Scrap4Art, free native wildlife shrub and tree giveaways, an 8 am pre-walk bird hike, and a post-walk native plant nursery tour at noon.
Individuals, families and groups or teams are all invited to participate. Adults are asked to raise at least $20 in pledges; children, $5. Contributions are tax-deductible. Registration forms and a complete schedule of the day’s activities are available at the Nature’s Nursery website: www.natures-nursery.org or by calling 419-877-0060.
