Sunday, May 08, 2011, Toledo, Ohio, USA – The Toledo Civil Rights March for LGBTQ Equality has been planned for Friday, June 3 at noon and will meet on the premises of One Government Center, 640 Jackson St. The sidewalk route of the march will proceed south on Erie St. to Monroe St. then east on Monroe St. to Summit St. which will continue north on Summit St. back to One Government Center for a rally. The march is to bring attention to International Gay Pride Month and towards the civil liberties yet to be granted for Toledo’s LGBTQ community.

This will be the third LGBTQ protest and demonstration of its kind organized by Toledo native, Lair Scott, who first introduced a gay rights march on Sunday, June 28, 1995 and is the founder of Toledo Gay Pride Day. Scott returned last year where over 80 individuals participated. This year, organizers expect a larger crowd due to the success of last year’s march and the afternoon schedule where more people will take notice.

Scott states that, “Toledo is in dire need of a gay and lesbian community center where social and medical services can be obtained without discrimination.” Scott adds that “The volume of gay bashing, domestic abuse and the lack of legitimate LGBTQ leaders is appalling in Toledo. Several issues concerning Toledo’s LGBTQ community have been swept under the rug and we need new changes and challenges and those are on the horizon.”

The march is sponsored by the Toledo LGBTQ Community Services Online and Toledo GLBTQ Pride where they can be found on Face Book.
