Toledo, OH – The Toledo Zoo invites the community to Swingin’ at the Zoo, a free concert at its Historic Amphitheatre, on Sunday, August 7 at 7 p.m.

The Toledo Jazz Orchestra will perform swing-era favorites from Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington and other music legends. The concert, presented by The Blade in partnership with The Andersons, will help fill the absence of the popular Music under the Stars concert series.

Dr. Anne Baker, Toledo Zoo Executive Director, noted that the Zoo has partnered with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra for more than 50 years, during which time a generation of area residents has enjoyed free concerts at the Zoo.

“We’ve enjoyed a wonderful partnership with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, with the Zoo providing the venue and the Orchestra providing the band,” Dr. Baker said. “We were just as disappointed as everyone else that the Symphony was not able to present the concert band for Music under the Stars this year; however, we look forward to working with them next year for their 2012 concert series. In the meantime, we’re grateful to the Toledo Jazz Orchestra and The Blade, in partnership with The Andersons, for bringing this free concert to the community.”

Admission to Swingin’ at the Zoo is free, although non-members of the Toledo Zoo must pay to park in the Zoo’s Anthony Wayne Trail lot. In addition, visitors are invited to stop by the Beastro Café before the concert. With a delicious menu of sandwiches, salads and wraps, the Beastro will tame a beastly appetite! The Beastro Café is adjacent to the African Lodge and will be open from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. prior to the concert.
