EXCHANGE STUDENTS FROM HYDERABAD TO BE HONORED BY COMMITTEE
TOLEDO, OH –, Seven exchange students from Hyderabad, Pakistan, will be honored in a ceremony hosted by the Toledo-Hyderabad Sister City Committee and the Global Education Campaign, Sunday, August 7, beginning at 6pm, at the Epiphany Lutheran Church, 915 N. Reynolds Road.
The students, ages 14-17, are completing a two-and-a-half week summer program hosted by the International Youth Academy in cooperation with the Toledo-Hyderabad Sister City Committee. Dr. Anwer Ali, Chair of the Committee, says that they are learning about American culture and improved their English skills, and that such exchange programs “promote friendship and brotherhood and a positive relationship between the two communities.” Local families with whom the students have been staying will also be recognized during the ceremony.
The public is invited, but anyone attending is strongly encouraged to RSVP to the contacts given above, before Sunday.
The mission of Toledo Sister Cities International (TSCI) is to cultivate successful relationships and international understanding among the youth, adults, businesses, and organizations of the Toledo area and its sister cities through civic, cultural, educational, and leadership exchange programs. TSCI has a committee for each city, to facilitate these exchange programs. Hyderabad, Pakistan, is the newest Sister City.
The Global Education Campaign’s mission is to provide high-quality education, permeated with human values, to people who, because of economic depression or political oppression, have no other means of becoming educated – without discriminating based on social, religious, or racial background.
