Toledo Area Humane Society is in Need of Foster Volunteers

Posted: Monday, August 8, 2011 by: Cynthia Condit | Category: Community Interest

Not all animals that come to the Toledo Area Humane Society are able go up for adoption right away for a variety of reasons. The Toledo Area Humane Society is currently seeking foster homes for several animals that are in need of extra tender loving care before they can find their forever homes. Currently in need of foster homes are several litters of kittens including two litters of five kittens each with their mother, a mother cat and two kittens, five kittens without their mother, and a single kitten. And because it’s kitten season, we will likely have more kittens needing fosters homes soon.

Also in need of foster homes are a few injured dogs including a male puggle, a female adult pit bull mix, and a female pit bull puppy. Each of these injured dogs is on bed-rest and requires an easy-going foster home with very little activity.

Foster homes and families come in all shapes and sizes. Singles, couples, seniors, and families are all welcome to fill out a foster care application. The most common foster situations include:
o Infant puppies and kittens that require bottle-feeding every 3-4 hours
o Nursing mothers and their litters (puppies and kittens)
o Pregnant dogs and cats
o Self-sufficient puppies and kittens that are too young to be adopted
o Rabbits, hamsters, gerbils, ferrets, guinea pigs and birds
o Animals recovering from treatable illnesses or injuries
o Underweight animals
o Animals in need of minor behavior training and/or socialization

The Toledo Area Humane Society provides foster homes with all of the supplies that are needed to care for a pet. Some fosters may only be a few days, others may need extended care. If you are interested in becoming a foster volunteer, please contact us at [email protected] or call 419-891-0705.

The Toledo Area Humane Society is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10am – 6pm. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization we are committed to the welfare of animals by providing temporary shelter and care while seeking permanent homes.
