What: With the demolition of the BP station and PNC Bank, and with Taco Bell’s move to a larger, more modern restaurant on the south side of Dorr Street, The University of Toledo Foundation and its partner, Fairmont Properties, will break ground on the new Dorr Street Gateway development.

When/Where: Wednesday, Aug. 10 at 10 a.m. on the southwest corner of UT’s Main Campus.

Who: Speaking will be UT Foundation Board Chairman Gregory Kopan, UT President Lloyd Jacobs, U.S. Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, Toledo Councilwoman Wilma Brown and Student Government President Matt Rubin.

The community can view progress of the development 24/7 via the web, here, and media can download a video flythrough of the Gateway here.

More information:
-The current plan is for the development to open in late summer of 2012.
-The development will be anchored by the University Bookstore, which is operated by Barnes and Nobel. The move will free up space in UT’s Student Union.
-Restaurants and retailers will include Gradkowski’s Sports Grille, Great Clips, a banking center and additional student-centered retailers.
-Apartments will be located on upper floors.
-UT and the UT Foundation have worked closely with community organizations in an effort to draw neighbors, especially from Secor Gardens, on to campus.
-UT and the UT Foundation also are working with the city and the state to improve traffic flow and ensure safety.
-Says Student Government President Matt Rubin, “This will be a huge attraction for students at UT and particularly for new students who come visit the University to decide if they want to attend. Being able to meet your friends and have some fun without having to drive really opens up opportunities students didn’t have before.”
