Art in Public Places

Posted: Monday, August 15, 2011 by: Alanna Sindlinger | Category: Arts and Entertainment

As a part of our ongoing Art in Public Places program, the Perrysburg Area Arts Council presents a juried exhibition of Abstract art at the Perrysburg Municipal Building and Courthouse, August through October 2011. Using a variety of techniques and media, the selected artists exemplify the wide range of abstract expression in contemporary art.

The Perrysburg Municipal Courthouse will feature 22 oil paintings by artist, Michael
Palmer, who describes his work as: “organic layering of texture and color” that “reflect[s] his passion for exploring unconventional ways of conveying color to the canvas.”

The Perrysburg Municipal Building will host the work of Allison Parsons, Marti
Huepenbecker, Lisa Bell, Matt Gomez, Margarita Beale, Ryan Kostecky and Alanna
Burke. Matt Gomez and Ryan Kostecky approach their canvas by experimenting with
the media and a variety of tools, while Allison Parson’s takes a more conceptual
approach in her acrylic paintings. The oil paintings of Margarita Beale, display her fluid approach and suggests both representational and expressionistic influence, and Marti Huepenbecker pushes photography to a new level by focusing in on surrounding
details. Similarly, Alanna Burke represents nature through a magnified perspective with her use of watercolor and gouache.

In addition to the Abstract Exhibition, PAAC is pleased to present the work of artist Bill Thompson through September at the Way Public Library. Thompson's acrylic paintings are both abstract and surrealistic in nature. Interpreting desert landscapes of the American Southwest, Thompson varies his pallet with the use of line and texture, creating unity and balance in each piece.
