(Released August 31, 2011) - The Jamil Lewis Multicultural Center for the Arts (JLMCA), with the support of Hostelling International Toledo Area Council, sponsored its Community Wall Mural Project. The mural’s unveiling exhibition was held at Bozarts Gallery in July. The mural was created by 10 local artists ranging from ages 8-18 years-old. The youth worked as a team instructed by area artists Corinthia Parker and Jim Williams to create a 6 x 9-foot mural. The JLMCA Art Around Town youth expressed themselves by artistically depicting who they are in their own individual neighborhoods.

The colorful mural is on exhibit now through September 30 at the Reynolds Corners Branch Library, 4833 Dorr St. Patrons can view the mural during normal Library hours.

“The Community Wall service project teaches youth to gain cultural understanding, define their community, build pride in their culture, and express what it is like to live in their neighborhood through the creation of an original painting,” said Audrey Johnson, JLMCA Founder and Executive Director.

The JLMCA Art Around Town Community Wall Mural project young artists are QuoTasha Carpenter, Ciara Payne, Devin Sample, Demetrio Soto, Jesse Thomas, Patrice Tilman, Simone Tilman, Nakiya White, Will White, Jr., and Jasmond Young.
