Wine & Cheese Social to support youth athletics
BOWLING GREEN, OHIO–The 16th annual Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Foundation Wine & Cheese Social, one of the community’s most popular fall events, will be held Sept. 23 at the Simpson Building.
WTOL-TV news anchor Jerry Anderson will again be guest auctioneer for the fundraiser. Proceeds this year will go toward the expansion of youth athletic fields.
According to Michelle Grigore, director of Bowling Green City Parks and Recreation Department, about 1,260 youngsters register each year to take part in the city’s soccer program and there aren’t enough practice and playing fields to accommodate all of the teams.
To serve as many youths as possible, more playing fields of various sizes are needed, Grigore said.
Park Foundation President Larry Nader said he hopes many Bowling Green residents will not only attend the fundraiser but also will take part as volunteers. “I’d encourage everyone who’s interested to get involved,” Nader said. “It’s really a lot of fun.”
He noted that the foundation welcomes donations of homemade food; help with set up, food service and related tasks; cash contributions from event sponsors, and donations of items worth $200 or more for the live auction. Popular auction items in the past have included gourmet meals and vacation accommodations.
The Wine & Cheese Social will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23 in the Simpson Building at Simpson Garden Park.
