Toledo Area Humane Society In Need of Canned Cat Food & Dog

The Toledo Area Humane Society (TAHS) needs your help! TAHS is the largest and oldest animal welfare organization in our community and cares for up to 100 cats and kittens a day. They come to the Humane Society through a variety of avenues: owner surrenders, strays, cruelty cases plus cats and kittens abandoned at local pet stores, animal hospitals and even the back door of the Humane Society. Last year, we took in over 3,000 cats!

Currently the Toledo Area Humane Society is almost out of canned cat food. We use large quantities of canned food when treating the sick, injured and neglected animals. We also feed canned cat food in our open cat rooms for the healthy adoptable cats.

“We think that the adult cats may start a protest soon,” said Jodi Harding, Animal Care Manager of the Toledo Area Humane Society. “We keep walking past the open cat rooms and expect to see little picket signs. They have plenty of dry cat food but, we have had to cut back on the canned food to make sure we have enough to care for kittens and sick cats that take medication in their food.”

Although the Toledo Area Humane Society works to make the lives of the animals in their care the best possible, it is still not being in a home. Kitty Cuddler volunteers, bird feeders at the windows, lots of toys and dedicated staff to care for the cats help make them as comfortable as possible while waiting for their forever home. But meal time is always one of the favorite times of day for the animals. Cutting back on their canned food makes for unhappy kitties.

The Humane Society is also in need of small, soft dog treats that can be used in our kennels as rewards for good behaviors and by visitors looking for their new best friend.

Donating is easy! You can either donate directly at the shelter or through our Amazon.com Wishlist. Donations of any brand of canned cat food and small, soft dog treats can be dropped off at the shelter at 1920 Indian Wood Circle in Maumee. The hours of operation are Tuesday through Sunday 10am until 6pm. For any questions please call 419-891-0705. You can also purchase items from our wishlist at Amazon.com by searching for the “Toledo Area Humane Society” under wishlists.

The Toledo Area Humane Society is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10am – 6pm. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization they are committed to the welfare of animals by providing temporary shelter and care while seeking permanent homes. Donations from local individuals, corporations and monies generated by fundraisers are a major source of funding for the Toledo Area Humane Society.
