Kalvin Hughes gave a dazzling performance at the Maumee theater as did his other musical counterparts. Truly enjoyable. So when I saw an ad that he would be performing at the old Murphys, now the 151 downtown, I jumped on the opportunity and found a last minute ticket. The doors opened at 1:30 and the event was to go from 2-5 pm with food service (buffet style), soul food. The price $20. I arrived at 1:35 and the place was already to capacity with more coming in the door. My friend and I found a table in the back. There was a jazz trio performing holiday tunes and such. Not bad. By 2:30 people began lining up for the buffet line. There was no direction what so ever and lines were forming every where, it was packed, over packed. I was glad to have worn short sleeves because it was no firehouse hot in the joint. We stood in line for about an hour before making it to the food. The food was decent, I have to say, no issues with the food but for $20 bucks and an hour wait, I could think of a million other places to have appeased my appetite. By 4:15, Kalvin still had not appeared, we headed for the door as did many others. While I can understand musicians trying to make a buck, this takes the cake, no one is desperate enough to sit in an overcrowded oven, less the 20 bucks to eat something for dinner they could of had at home. Its the last 20 bucks he will get from my pocket. Hope Santa brings him some morals to go with his lack of values when it comes to ripping off a community.....and these were church folk, come on!!!
