The workshop is designed to help participants learn these techniques through demonstration and hands-on application. Participants should bring an 8” x10” design for use during their studio time. Fees for the workshop are $25.00 for PRIZM members and $30.00 for guests and include costs of print making paper, tools and inks. Registration is required and maybe completed online at www.myprizm.com. Deadline for registration is Oct. 8. Or register by calling Ruth Koskinen at 419-874-9068.

In printmaking monoprint refers to a single impression of an image made from a reprintable block such as lithography, woodcut, and etching. Rather than printing an edition of a single image, only one impression may be produced at a time so that in a strict sense each print is expressive and unique due to the re-inking process. Drypoint is a printmaking technique which refers to how the design is transferred to the print-plate. In this technique the image is incised into a plate of copper, acetate, zinc or plexiglass with a hard pointed “needle of sharp metal before being inked and printed. This technique is easier than engraving since the needle used is close to using a traditional drawing instrument such as a pencil as opposed to the engraver’s burin tool. Participants will enjoy free use of the studio after the demonstrations to complete their own unique projects.

Instructor Mania Dajnak is a resident of Perrysburg, OH. She owns and operates Studio M Printmakers. Her personal works often combine printmaking and drawing techniques in large scale abstract works and have been shown in over 100 exhibitions at galleries and museums nationally. Studio M Printmakers provides opportunities for those who want to explore printmaking including open studio hours, instruction, and gallery space.

Ms. Dajnak holds a BFA from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art and an MFA from the University of Pennsylvania. Among her awards is a Fulbright Grant to Poland and an individual artist grant from the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts. Ms. Dajnak has taught art and art history at local colleges and universities for 15 years and currently on faculty in the art departments of The University of Toledo and Owens Community College.
