Local Filmmakers summon suspense in 4 minutes for Contest
TOLEDO, OH – Two friends, who claim to be scary movie superfans, have entered their first horror film entitled “‘T’ is for the Third” in a search to find the 26th director for an upcoming film compilation known as “The ABC’s of Death”.
The project, being released by Drafthouse Films, has lined up 25 well-known horror filmmakers from across the globe to direct their own 4-minute short film, each using one letter from the alphabet to create a word that serves as the backdrop for their film. (i.e., A is for Asphyxiation, B is for Boogeyman, C is for Cannibals, etc.) The letter ‘T’ was left open for the public, allowing amateurs to choose their own T-based word and make their film.
Scott Biddle from Maumee, 27, and Brett Thomas from Perrysburg, 25, ended up selecting ‘Third’ as their word. What does it represent? Apparently, you’ll have to watch it to find out. Scott says, “Many of the submissions use a heavy dose of gore and humor in their films, while we chose a slow-building suspense to lead up to our finale,” noting being inspired by directors such as Alfred Hitchcock and M. Night Shyamalan.
“We are happy to be the only entry representing Northwest Ohio, and we are counting on local horror fans to help us out,” says Brett. The film was made with less than a $200 budget, a crew of only 4 people, and some borrowed film equipment from friends.
Currently, the film is just one of over a hundred entries and trying to gain votes through Facebook and word-of-mouth. The public voting ends on Halloween, when the top ten most-voted videos will be reviewed by the other 25 directors to decide the winning film. The winning director will have their film placed in the compilation, which will have nationwide distribution, as well as $5,000.
