Library Observes THE CIVIL WAR’S Sesquicentennial Oct 15

The Toledo-Lucas County Public Library honors the people, places and events that so painfully divided us, yet ultimately brought us back together . . . The Civil War: 150 years ago, over 600,000 men dead; two armies . . . one nation.

Join us for Life in the Civil War, on Saturday, October 15 from 12:30 – 4 p.m. at Main Library, 325 Michigan St. Mark your calendar now for this very special event featuring guest speakers, historical re-enactments, displays and more. This program is FREE and open to the public.

The day includes:

Life on the Field
• Civil War Re-enactors

Life at Home
• Elizabeth Topping, Victorian Mourning Customs
• Elizabeth Aldridge, Children’s Games and Toys
• Clara J’s Tea Room, Victorian Tea Customs followed by refreshments

First Tuesday Film Series – (Mark your calendar!)

• Rebel Fire/Yankee Ice – Tuesday, November 1 from 6-8 p.m. - Mr. Johnson’s island was an uninhabited piece of land in the middle of Sandusky Bay. By spring of 1862, Confederate officers were held there in a make-shift prison camp. This is their story, told in their own words. SPECIAL GUEST: Dr. David Bush, Heidelberg University.

• The Red Badge of Courage – Tuesday, December 6 from 6-8 p.m. – This film adaptation of Stephen Crane’s famous novel tells the story of Henry Fleming as he grapples with fear and courage as a Union Army recruit during the Civil War.
