Toledo Walleye Will Host Battle of the Badges
(TOLEDO, OH) – The Toledo Walleye, along with the Toledo Police and Fire Departments, have announced plans for the first ever “Battle of the Badges” charity hockey game. The event will take place at the Huntington Center on Saturday, November 12 prior to the Walleye game.
Fans that have a ticket for the Walleye game on November 12 may use the ticket as admission to the “Battle of the Badges” game. Doors will open at 2:00 p.m. and the game begins at 3:00 p.m. The Walleye game versus Gwinnett begins at 7:00 p.m.
Fans wishing to purchase tickets for the game have several options:
-Go to the Huntington Center box office and mention “fire” or “police” when purchasing tickets

A portion of the ticket sales from the game on November 12 will benefit the Firefighters Local 92 Charities as well as the Toledo Police Athletic League.
Toledo Police Sgt. Tim Noble said, “The Police Department and Fire Department have played hockey as one combined team for over 20 years. This is the first time in recent memory that we’ve ever competed as two teams against one another, and we’re very excited.”
Jim Schulty of the Toledo Fire Department added, “Tim and I have played hockey together for over 27 years and almost 16 of those years as a fire/police team. We have combined the police and fire because we could not get enough players to commit to playing in the league. This was a blessing in disguise, however, as we have developed a competitive team that has won many tournaments in the Detroit area, Columbus, Windsor (Canada), and the Ohio Police/Fire Olympics. Most of our players are well over 35 years old but we are always looking for some of our younger players to step up and join us. I am looking forward to a spirited game between the firefighters and the police and I look forward to getting our team (Police/Fire) back together.”
**Additionally, former Toledo Police Chief Mike Navarre will be recognized prior to the Walleye game on the ice for his dedication and service to the city. Navarre recently retired after a 34-year career in police uniform, the last 13 of those years as police chief. Navarre will drop the ceremonial first puck at approximately 6:45 p.m.
Walleye Manager of Game Day Operations Greg Setola said, “The Toledo Police and Fire Departments have been fantastic to us since our move downtown a decade ago. They have played a big role in keeping the areas around both of our venues safe for our wonderful fans and for those efforts, we are truly appreciative.
