It’s National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week!
In recognition of National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week, November 6 – November 12, the Toledo Area Humane is reminding everyone about the valuable role that animal shelters play in our communities every day, helping animals and people alike.
“The Toledo Area Humane Society is proud to serve Northwest Ohio by providing services like our humane education programs for kids, the county’s only animal cruelty officers, a behavior helpline offering personal guidance for pet owners with questions - not to mention helping thousands of homeless animals find their new forever homes each year,” said John Dinon, Executive Director. “But we cannot do what we do everyday without the support of our community.”
How can you help the Toledo Area Humane Society? There are many ways you can help:
? Offer a donation of needed supplies. The Toledo Area Humane Society has a wish list of needed items available online through their website or through Amazon.com.
? Help spread the word about the importance of responsible pet ownership, including spaying and neutering.
? Volunteer your time. The Toledo Area Humane Society has a wide range of volunteer opportunities available from walking dogs, to cuddling kitties, or fostering young or injured animals.
? Report animal cruelty or neglect. The Toledo Area Humane Society has two full-time animal cruelty officers who investigate animal cruelty concerns throughout Lucas County.
? Adopt don’t shop. Adopt your next pet from the Toledo Area Humane Society or another reputable rescue organization.
“We invite everyone to stop by the Humane Society to take a look around, visit with the animals and see what the Humane Society is all about and how you can get involved. Involvement from the community goes a long way towards helping the animals and us do what we do every day,” says Dinon.
The Toledo Area Humane Society is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10am – 6pm and is located at 1920 Indian Wood Circle in Maumee’s Arrowhead Park. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization they are committed to the welfare of animals by providing temporary shelter and care while seeking permanent homes. Donations from local individuals, corporations and earned revenue and monies generated by fundraisers are major sources of funding for the Toledo Area Humane Society.
