Toledo, Ohio – When Imagination Station opens its doors tomorrow morning, the holiday season will be in full swing. Immediately following the downtown Toledo Holiday Parade, we’ll be welcoming Santa, opening our giant gingerbread castle, showcasing more than 40 gingerbread houses and offering a variety of holiday themed activities for visitors.

Santa will arrive at Imagination Station just off the parade route and will be available for those important wish list visits from 12:30-4pm on Saturday and 12–4 on Sunday. The Blade is providing complimentary 5x7 photos (Saturday only) with Santa, so make sure to come out and get your place in line for this ‘sweet’ visit. Santa will be making weekend visits to the science center November 26 & 27, December 3 & 4 and 10 & 11.

Step inside our gingerbread castle, constructed and decorated by students from Penta Career Center. It features a fireplace and holiday decorations depicting portraits of Santa & Mrs. Claus and the entire reindeer herd, including Rudolph. Using more than 1000 pounds of flour and 600 pounds of corn syrup, this Christmas confection is the perfect backdrop for a visit with Santa Claus himself. The castle will be on display through January 2, 2012.

Designed as a classroom assignment, Penta Culinary students created individual houses that are on display at Imagination Station through the holidays. Over 40 unique creations showcase the delicate detail of the culinary arts. Candy lovers will enjoy searching the dwellings for their favorite sweets, but don’t eat them – they’re for display only. Make sure to vote for your favorite!

The Kris Kringle Village will also include activity stations, facilitated by volunteers from UPS, where visitors can participate in a variety of holiday themed activities. Visitors can make paper snowflakes, chromatography snowflakes and Insta-Snow to name just a few. Learn about the freezing point of water with a ‘cool’ hands-on demonstration.

We’ll be treating visitors to a delicious scientific dessert on weekends during the holiday season - Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream will be on the menu in Science Studio throughout the day.

Also on display this holiday season, the beautiful cut-paper artistry of Dr. Thomas Clark, a.k.a. Dr. Snowflake. Dozens of samples of his timeless precision cutting adorn the walls of the science center and offer inspiration to visitors of all ages willing to take scissors to paper and cut, cut, cut. Dr. Snowflake will make a personal appearance on December 27th.

To visit with Santa, visitors must request a timed ticket at Visitor Services admission desk. Timed tickets will be issued on a first come, first served basis and allows visitors to explore the science center without having to wait in a long line. Limited quantities are available. Although tickets will not be available until the science center opens, visitors should consider arriving early to secure tickets.

Don’t forget – Lucas County residents, 12 and under, are admitted free every Saturday, when accompanied by an adult. Two children admitted per paid adult admission.

The Imagination Station, located on the downtown Toledo riverfront, is a science center dedicated to delivering science and technology based programming to youth and their families throughout Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. All activities are included in the cost of admission. For more information, please call 419.244.2674.
