Shop at the Toledo Zoo on Black Friday

Posted: Friday, November 18, 2011 by: Andi Norman | Category: Arts and Entertainment

Instead of clawing your way through crowds at the mall on Black Friday, why not spend some time with a black-and-white colobus monkey or a black-necked swan?

The Zoo is open throughout Thanksgiving Weekend, starting with Black Friday hours of 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. (closing just 4 – 5 p.m. to prepare for the evening’s Lights Before Christmas). Get exclusive holiday deals at the Zoo’s North Star Trading Post®, already packed with gifts for the animal lovers on your list. Zoo admission is not required to shop.

Check out these clever, affordable holiday gift ideas:

Eco-friendly Gifts
We’re green and we have the gifts to prove it, starting with our 100% green tugboats, trucks and more (named by Dr. Toy as one of the 100 best toys for 2011!).
Hand-made Fudge, Nuts and Cookies
Impress the “foodie” on your list with hand-made fudge from our award-winning Timberline Bakery. And to hit that sweet/salty balance, we offer tins of nuts, too, along with other holiday goodies.
Zoo Memberships
Membership is a gift that goes on giving all year long, with free Zoo admission and parking, Safari! magazine subscription, merchandise discounts, early access to concert tickets and much more.
Zoo PAL Animal Sponsorship
Everyone has a favorite animal at the Zoo! Honorary parenthood, given in the name of your loved one, helps buy food, toys and medical supplies for that animal – plus an opportunity to learn more about the animal and talk with animal care staff at Zoo PAL Night.
Gift Certificates
Send the kids to a class or camp so fun, they won’t realize they’re learning. We offer one-day and multi-day classes and camps, perfect for busy families and school breaks.

After you’re done shopping, a stroll through the Zoo will remind you why it was such a good idea to come here – from the graceful blacktip reef shark in our Aquarium to the sleek black tree monitor in our Reptile House. And our award-winning children’s zoo, Nature’s Neighborhood, is open for the kids, too. The evening brings Lights Before Christmas (separate fee), the area’s premier holiday tradition.

Even better, your visit supports a local business which, in turn, supports your community with safe, affordable family recreation all year long. To learn more, visit toledozoo.org/blackfriday. If you miss Black Friday, you can shop online anytime at http://shop.toledozoo.org.
