Holidays in the Manor House, a Toledo tradition for more than 30 years, returns to Wildwood Preserve Metropark December 4-11. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. each day of the eight-day event, and admission is free.

Starting the week before, hundreds of volunteers will decorate more than 30 areas of the Georgian colonial mansion, often using items from treasured family collections. Dozens of trees will be assembled, lights will be strung and the house will be buzzing with activity.

The first Holidays in the Manor House (then called Homespun Holidays) was held before Wildwood Preserve officially opened as a park. Today, Wildwood is the most-visited of the nine Metroparks, and Holidays in the Manor House is the largest annual event in the park system, attracting 10,000-15,000 visitors each year.

Decorators submit ideas shortly after the conclusion of each year’s event and are selected nearly a year in advance. Some decorate full rooms, while others decorate areas, such as the enclosed terrace on the second floor, or the cedar closet. One group, the Garden Club Forum of Toledo, has been a part of the event every year, and has decorated virtually every area of the house.

In addition to decorating, volunteers also greet visitors at the door, serve as room guides and provide musical entertainment during the event.
