Holiday Lantern Tours at Sauder Village
Archbold, OH – The flicker of a candle-lit lantern will light the way as guests travel back in time to experience a turn-of-the-century Christmas at Sauder Village. Reservations are now being taken for the annual Holiday Lantern Tours to be held December 2, 3, 9 and 10 at Sauder Village.
“Our Lantern Tours have become a holiday tradition for many families throughout the region,” shared Kim Krieger, PR/Media Relations. “Families enjoy spending time together celebrating the holiday customs and celebrations of days gone by. Allowing extra time for a meal at the Barn Restaurant and shopping is a bonus as well!”
During the Holiday Lantern Tour program, a costumed guide takes small groups on a journey to meet historical characters in the 1910 Homestead, the District 16 Schoolhouse, St. Mark’s Church and the Elmira Depot. Guests are invited to experience the holiday customs and celebrations of the 1900s and hear stories about Christmas’ past and the history of Northwest Ohio. Guests can help string popcorn in the homestead, make paper chains in the school and join in a hymn sing and receive a special gift in the church.
Holiday Lantern Tours last roughly 90 minutes and are repeated every half hour from 4:00-8:30 p.m. Program cost is $11.00 for adults and $6.50 for students. While this is a family oriented program, the Holiday Lantern Tours may be too long for preschoolers and younger children.

Guests looking for a fun-filled weekend get-away may want to consider the Holiday Lantern Tour Package at the Heritage Inn. This special package includes one overnight stay at the Heritage Inn, two adult Lantern Tour tickets and a Barn Restaurant gift certificate.
A number of unique shopping and dining events are also planned for the holiday season at Sauder Village. The annual “Kids Christmas Shopping Event” will take place on Saturday, December 3 from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. At this holiday shopping event the Gift Shop and General Store will offer special gift items, kid-friendly prices, game demonstrations and free gift-wrapping with assistance from Sauder Village Junior Historians! From December 19-23 there will be special Christmas Music at the Barn Restaurant from 5:00-7:30 p.m. Groups slated to perform include John Galbraith and his daughter Laura, Hand Hewn and Janet Burgett. Groups will share old-fashioned Christmas music, hymns, songs and stories while guests enjoy a delicious meal.
