Racing for Recovery™ Launches Social Media Support Group Community
Team Racing for Recovery™ Offers Addicts, Friends and Families an Online Forum for
Contributing to the Conversation for Recovery
Sylvania, Ohio – December 13, 2011 – Today, Racing for Recovery™ announces the launch of the Team Racing for Recovery™ social media community. The online support group tool makes it possible for members from around the world to establish a meaningful dialog with each other about recovery topics. It is free to the public; and it is offered to help addicts maintain a lasting sobriety, support Racing for Recovery’s mission and professional counseling services, as well as aid in the awareness and reduction of drug and alcohol addiction in our communities.
Team Racing for Recovery can be accessed 24/7 at Team.RacingforRecovery.com.
The community utilizes many familiar social media attributes that make using it as natural as other popular online outlets, like Facebook. However, the Team community has been developed to allow members the ability to choose the level of privacy that makes them the most comfortable with sharing. By ensuring the option for anonymity, members can more freely engage with others in the conversation for recovery without the worry of who might judge their situation based on the social stigmas associated with addiction. Therefore, registration is necessary, but minimal information is required.
“In the ten years we’ve been working to save lives, we haven’t seen this level of open and honest dialog about addiction recovery happening in other popular social media tools. So, we decided to develop our own. Team Racing for Recovery brings the dialog online and empowers everyone to expand their recovery process beyond a one-on-one counseling session or traditional support group setting,” said Founder and President of Racing for Recovery, Todd Crandell PC, LCDCIII.
According to the Department of Health and Human Services, “An estimated 22 million American’s are classified with substance dependance or abuse [in one form or another]…”
Racing for Recovery offers a unique, cutting-edge, holistic model for treating addiction. The organization unites addicts, families, friends and members of the community in the dialog. Everyone is encouraged to share how addiction has impacted his or her life. Racing for Recovery has recognized that when all points of view are shared in a structured and non-confrontational setting, everyone is better able to heal.
Melissa Hall, a program participant since 2008 said, “Racing for Recovery pulled me out of the gutter and gave me a new life. It gave me the opportunity to see how good life really can be.”
Cathy and Robert Martin believe Racing for Recovery changed their son’s life for the better. Cathy said, “Finally there is a place where we can all freely talk about our problems and learn that we are not alone.” Robert added, “I now see my son excelling in all that he chooses to dedicate himself to.”
Todd Crandell, PC, LCDCIII, Founder and President of Racing for Recovery and an accomplished triathlete, knows first hand the devastation of substance abuse. His own thirteen-year struggle with drugs and alcohol nearly destroyed his life. It wrecked relationships with family and friends; and shattered the promise of a professional hockey career. Crandell quit using drugs and alcohol on April 15, 1993 and has been sober ever since. He is now a Professional Counselor and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor III, devoted father of 4, and leader and vocal community awareness advocate.
In 2001, Crandell established Racing for Recovery to inspire others to start forward on the road to sobriety. With Crandell’s life experiences, education and training as the foundation, the organization is able to promote a lifestyle of fitness and sobriety via local support group meetings, motivational speaking, race events across the U.S., and now the newly launched Team Racing for Recovery online community.
“Gratitude, humility and a continued conversation with family, friends and the community have enabled me to attain and sustain sobriety. I want to help others in the same situation; and the Team Racing for Recovery social media support group community is another great tool we offer to do just that,” said Crandell.
