At a news conference held this morning, YWCA Northwest Ohio CEO Lisa McDuffie announced the 2012 honorees for the YWCA Milestones: A Tribute to Women annual award. Officials of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library are proud to announce that Margaret Danziger, Library Deputy Director, was named among the seven local honorees.

Danziger, who holds a Master of Library Science degree from the University of Illinois, was named in the Sciences category for the prestigious annual Milestones award. For 17 years, YWCA Northwest Ohio has recognized area women who have demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities and who have opened doors for other women to achieve milestones of their own.

Danziger is known for her leadership, scientific curiosity and critical skills in the exploding field of Information Science. The field of Library Science has been transformed into Library and Information Science, primarily due to the rapid growth of information through the digital and Internet explosion.

“Margaret has honed her skills of critical evaluation and analytical thinking to adapt in a diverse and changing global information environment,” said Kathryn Fell, Library Development Coordinator, who nominated Danziger for the award.

Danziger and the other honorees will be recognized at The YWCA Milestones: A Tribute to Women awards luncheon
scheduled at the SeaGate Convention Centre, on Thursday, March 15 at 11:30 a.m.

Danziger, who was named Librarian of the Year in 2005 by the Ohio Library Council, said she was very honored by the recognition.

“This honor means so very much to me. There’s an African proverb that says, ‘If you want to go fast, go alone, If you want to go far, go with others.’ I have always liked this proverb because I don’t believe I’ve achieved everything on my own; I’ve had others that have helped me reach my goals,” said Danziger.

Danziger’s accomplishments:
· Highest ranking female administrator within the countywide Toledo-Lucas County Public Library
· Coordinated a grant process for a $2.2 million U.S. Department of Commerce Broadband Technology Opportunities (BTOP) federal stimulus grant, which has enabled Kent Branch Library to debut a state-of-the-art public computer center and a cybermobile unit to provide training and other offerings to high-need patrons
· Serves as a true role model and mentor for her colleagues and staff, and is determined to continue the growth of female driven organizational leadership in her community
· Board president, Ohio Library Council
· Government Relations, Toledo Chamber of Commerce
· President Zonta Club of Toledo (1995-1996)
· Active Member, Toledo Symphony League
