Adopt Your "Fur?Ever Love"
Toledo, OH – Adopt your “fur?ever” love from the Toledo Area Humane Society today and your new pet will never spend Valentine’s Day alone again! Not only will adopting a shelter pet warm your heart, pets are good for your heart health too!
“Pet ownership provides many health benefits, not only for your heart, but for your overall physical and mental well?being”, says Dr. Paul Berlacher M.D., with Northwest Ohio Cardiology Consultants. “Studies have shown that having a companion animal can reduce levels of stress, heart rate and blood pressure, which can improve heart health and reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke. In addition, pets are also great motivation for encouraging exercise and physical activity.”
Pets are thought to be natural mood enhancers and studies have shown that pets can reduce levels of depression through the emotional bond created between owner and pet. Pet therapy programs are becoming more popular in hospitals, nursing homes, and with mental health professionals to promote health and healing to ill or elderly patients. Research has also shown that pets can provide assistance to individuals with aliments ranging from arthritis to epilepsy. And dogs are long known for playing a variety of supporting roles to those with disabilities or who are prone to seizures.
In honor of Valentine’s Day, the Toledo Area Humane Society is offering a special “Fur?Ever Love” adoption special. Beginning Tuesday, February 14 through Sunday, February 19, adoption fees for several of our sweethearts will be reduced to $14. Dog kennels and information boards in the cat rooms will be marked to indicate which animals are eligiblr for the $14 adoption fee. In addition, with each adoption, adopters will receive a heart?shaped basket filled with goodies for their new “fur?ever friend”. (Baskets available while supplies last)
“Offering a reduced adoption fee for some of our special animals is a great way for us to remind people of the benefits of adopting a pet, like a life?time of unconditional love”, says John Dinon, Executive Director of the Toledo Area Humane Society. “Not only do pets provide a variety of health benefits, but by adopting a rescue pet, you can feel even better about the life you saved by adopting from a shelter.”
All animals have been spayed or neutered, have had a physical examination by TAHS on?staff veterinarians, have received all of their age?appropriate vaccines and have been microchipped.
The Toledo Area Humane Society is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10am – 6pm. As a 501(c)(3) non?profit organization they are committed to the welfare of animals by providing temporary shelter and care while seeking permanent homes. Donations from local individuals, corporations and monies generated by fundraisers are a major source of funding for the Toledo Area Humane Society.
