Lourdes University to host 2012 Earth Day event
Lourdes University is hosting the following events celebrating Earth Day 2012:
??April 22 – Earth Day at Lourdes University
?Lourdes’ Appold Planetarium is partnering with a number of community organizations to host an Earth Day event designed for the whole family! 1-5 p.m. in and around the Appold Planetarium. Partnering organizations include (*denotes organization offering hands-on activities):
• Life Lab
• Lourdes Biology Student Association
• Lucas County Soil & Water Conservation
• Imagination Station*
• Keep Toledo / Lucas County Beautiful, Inc.
• Olander Park System*
• Sisters of St. Francis
• Toledo Astronomical Association
• Toledo Lucas County Public Library
• Toledo Metroparks*
• Toledo Zoo* (bringing some of their animals)
• University of Toledo College of Engineering
April 23 – Eco-city presentation
In March, Lourdes education students worked with 3rd, 4th and 5th graders at the Franciscan Academy to build an eco-city made out of 100% recycled materials. The group will present their final project in McAlear Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
April 24 – Free Planetarium shows
The Appold Planetarium will be offering a variety of free shows including Oasis in Space, Origin of Life and Journey to the Planets. 9 to 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 2 p.m. Arrive early or stay late and enjoy science fair project displays created by Franciscan Academy students. April 25 – Environmental Footprint screening?Measure your environmental footprint at one of the computer stations located outside of the Welcome Center in McAlear Hall. 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
April 26 – Care for Creation proclamation signing
The Sylvania Franciscan Village will affirm its commitment to the Earth by officially adopting the Care for Creation proclamation. 1:30 p.m. on Lourdes’ dining hall patio.
