The Toledo Area Humane Society would like to thank everyone for their support and for voting them into the final round of the ASPCA $100K Challenge. Official results were announced this morning and TAHS received over 10,000 votes, placing them 29th overall in the country out of 104 participating organizations.

“We are thrilled to have made it to the next round and with the amount of support we received from everyone in the community to help vote us into the final round of the Challenge,” says John Dinon, Executive Director of the Toledo Area Humane Society. “The number of votes that not only we received, but that were received for shelters across the country, illustrates the importance of humane societies and animal shelters and their missions.”

To show their appreciation for the support they received in the Qualifying Round of the ASPCA $100K Challenge, the Toledo Area Humane Society is offering special adoption rates for all of the dogs and cats in the shelter. Beginning tomorrow, April 18 through Sunday, April 22, all Lonely Hearts Club members (cats or dogs that have been in the shelter for 60 days or longer) will have their adoption fees reduced to just $29. All other dogs and cats will receive $29 off their adoption fee.

The ASPCA $100K Challenge is an amazing chance for animal shelters and humane societies all over the country to save more lives and to get rewarded for it! The competition inspires shelters and their communities to come up with innovative ways to save more animals. The Toledo Area Humane Society could win between $5,000 and $125,000 to directly benefit our mission and help us save more lives.

The final round of the $100K Challenge takes place August 1 - October 31. Shelters that increase adoptions by at least 300 over the same three month period of the previous year win $5,000. Shelters with larger increases in adoptions win more money, and the shelter that increases adoptions the most wins $100,000. Most importantly, challenge participants will save a lot more animals!

“The next round of the Challenge is where the real work begins,” says Dinon. “We are absolutely embracing what this Challenge is all about and we have already begun brainstorming and researching creative ideas to help us increase adoptions and save more lives, not just during the Challenge, but overall. As much as we appreciate everyone’s help voting us into the Challenge, please don’t leave us now! You can do simple things now that will help us in the final round. For instance, ‘like’ us on Facebook and stay up-to-date with feature animals available for adoption, special adoption promotions and happy endings. If you want to be more involved, sign up to be a foster volunteer and help us care for animals that are too young or too ill to go up for adoption right away,” explained Dinon.

The Toledo Area Humane Society is open Tuesday through Friday from 11am – 7pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10am – 6pm. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization they are committed to the welfare of animals by providing temporary shelter and care while seeking permanent homes. Donations from local individuals, corporations and monies generated by fundraisers and earned revenue are a major source of funding for the Toledo Area Humane Society.
