At Toledo School for the Arts it's Easy Being Green!
Bioswale planting starts Tuesday; project one step closer to completion
As part of a generous grant awarded through federal section 319(h) under the Clean Water Act Grant from the Ohio EPA and additional grant monies from the Harold and Helen McMaster Foundation, Toledo School for the Arts (TSA) and the City of Toledo were awarded $98,420 to install a green roof and parking lot bioswale, a landscape designed to remove pollution and silt from surface water run-off.
Other grant partners include the Mannik & Smith Group, Inc, and A.A. Boos & Sons who are providing in-kind and other services for the project.

A critical component of the grant is that this project is integrated into the science curriculum at TSA and as a result students have been designing project logos and collection devices, helping to collect and test storm water runoff, compiling the data and writing research papers. The classroom data collection and research will continue as the project grows.
The project development period is complete and the first stage of the implementation phase; the planting of the bioswale, will begin Tuesday, May 8th at 10:00 am in the TSA parking lot. As part of a school-wide effort, students, faculty, and parents will be on hand to plant the bioswale. A call out for shovels and rakes went to the school community this week and the school expects an opportunity to add another picture to the school’s event filled photo album.
